Deep within the mesmerizing rolling fields, lived a young shepherd. His life was unadulterated, simple yet virtuous. His only responsibility was mainly to tend to his herd of rams.

Their gentle baas and the whispering of the gales among the solo tree on the peak were his constant associates. Day upon day, guarding his responsibilities imbued in him a feeling of tranquil contentment.

Yet, there were at times moments of isolation, when the shepherd boy would yearn for fellowship. On one such day because of sheer tedium, the shepherd boy devised a troublesome plot.

Narratives of predators prowling on sheep had long been circulating in the hamlet. So, the boy opted to leveraged this fear and played a joke on the townsfolk.

One morning he ran into the village yelling “Wolf! A wolf is that has taken my sheep!” The terrified villagers ran up the hills to help but saw no wolf.

The boy chuckled at the puzzle on their faces. This game continued for a few more days. However, one noon, a real wolf actually come to prey the grazing sheep. The shepherd boy ran for aid screaming “Wolf, Wolf!” But this time, read more no one came.

Frustrated and alone, the boy battled against the wolf but managed to protect only few of his sheep. Heartbroken, he went back to the village only to receive a reprimand on honesty and the results of false alarms.

The tale of this shepherd boy has been handed down generations as a mediaeval parable for teaching the value of honesty, the consequences of lying and the perils of false alarms. Moreover, it stresses how trust once violated, is hard to regain. It's a story as relevant today as it was anciently.
